Nestled within the Fulton River District in Chicago’s West Loop, Fulton Market comprises Washington Boulevard to Grand Avenue and I/90-94 west to Ogden Avenue. As you stroll through the district, you can feel the vibrant energy and see the neighborhood’s rich history beside you, including the industrial grit and the faded-brick buildings. In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, Chicago’s famous Union Stock Yards supplied the city’s meatpacking district to the north, of which Fulton Market was a major part. Although no longer a national meat supplier, today Fulton Market is still a source of wholesale food for restaurants and hotels throughout Chicago.
Though rapid growth has pushed up the cost of living in Fulton Market, rents still line up with the city's average. A one-bedroom rents for around $2000, about on par with nearby Greektown and West Town and slightly less than the Near East Side across the river. Condos and apartments trend toward renovated lofts and modern high rises. Still, sampling dinner from Fulton Market's many upscale eateries can quickly empty your wallet, and the neighborhood caters to the professional and affluent cohort.
